Nov 21, Colombo: The American Center in Colombo will present a free public lecture on the effects of changing climate on the Indian Ocean.
The Economic Officer of the United States Embassy in Colombo, Dr. Alex Kahl will speak on the ‘Climate Change in the Indian Ocean at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 23, at the American Center auditorium in Colombo.
The presentation will also be connected via DVC to American Corners in Kandy and Jaffna.
Dr. Kahl, an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Diplomacy Fellow at the U. S. State Department, is also a Foreign Affairs Officer in the Office of the Science and Technology Advisor to the Secretary.
He was a post-doctoral scientist at the Palmer Station Long-Term Ecological Research site in Antarctica. He received his Ph.D. in Oceanography from Rutgers University in 2008.
Research has shown that sea levels rising in some parts and falling in others of the Indian Ocean is partly due to the climate change influencing the wind patterns above the surface of the ocean.
