June 02, Colombo: The Ministry of Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms has taken steps to release another 800 former Tamil Tiger combatants upon completion of their rehabilitation program at the Pompamadu and Punethottam rehabilitation camps in Vavuniya, the government announced today.

The Ministry plans to release the former fighters at a ceremony to be held at the Vavuniya Urban Council grounds on June 5.

The Government Media Unit said the Ministry has made arrangements to hold a cricket match on June 4 to coincide with this event.

The government says the programme is aimed to link-up the North and South on a permanent basis while completely freeing the Tamil youth from the war psychosis.
