Dec 21, Colombo: The Auditor General’s Department of Sri Lanka has begun an inquiry into alleged financial irregularities at the Religious Affairs Ministry.
The inquiry follows a request by Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne.
The inquiry will investigate alleged financial irregularities during the setting up of five pandals in Anuradhapura for the 2600th Sambuddha Jayanthi celebrations.
According to the Religious Affairs Ministry, information had also been received that several Ministry vehicles have been sold in an irregular manner. Jayaratne, who oversees the Religious Affairs Ministry, has called for an investigation after hearing about the matter.
