Buddhist prelate calls Sri Lanka’s main opposition to unite

Dec 26, Colombo: One of the senior Buddhist monks in the country has called on the main opposition United National Party (UNP) to unite.

Anu kayaked of the Asgiri Chapter in Kandy, Ven. Galagoda Aththadassi Thero has expressed his regret at the current plight of the UNP and asked former Deputy Leader of the UNP, Karu Jayasuriya and Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa not to allow the UNP to split.

The Thero has called on the two leaders not to allow the party that was formed by the late D.S. Senanayake to split.

Ven. Aththadassi Thero has noted that the leaders should find a mechanism to prevent the party from splitting and work to unite the UNP.

The Thero had made these comments when Premadasa and Jayasuriya had called on the Mahanayakes for their blessings after Premadasa was re-appointed as the Deputy Leader of the UNP.
