Chairman of local counsel shot in Southern Province of Sri Lanka

July 01, Beliatta: Beliatta police station of Sri Lanka’s Southern Province is investigating an incident of shooting that damaged the vehicle of the Chairman of the Tangalle Pradeshiya Sabha.

The shooting took place in the early hours of today as the Chairman Sampath Chandrapushpa Vidanapathirana was returning from a function, police say.

The vehicle has sustained around 17 gun shots but no one has been injured in the incident police say.

Police sources said preliminary investigations have revealed that two unidentified gunmen who arrived on a motorbike opened fire.
