Chief Ministers of Sri Lanka’s provincial councils meet today to discuss government’s economic progress

Sept 24, Embilipitiya: The 29th conference of Sri Lanka’s provincial council chief ministers is held today at the Centuria Tourist Resort in Embilipitiya.

The Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council is hosting the event. The Chief Ministers of eight Provincial Councils, the Chief Secretaries of Provinces, Representatives of Treasury and Finance Commission are participating in the conference.

Chairman of the Chief Ministers’ Conference Chief Minister of the Sabaragamuwa Province Maheepala Herath said the Conference could be regarded as a joint effort of the provincial councils to identify the people’s problems and to provide remedies.

The meeting is to focus attention on ways to further progress the implementation of government’s economic programmes centering upon five forces including the tourism industry.

At the meeting, the chairmanship of the Chief Ministers’ Conference is to be handed over to the Uva Provincial Council Chief Minister Shashendra Rajapaksa who is to host the 30th Chief Ministers’ Conference.
