CID informs Sri Lankan court that governing party MP would be arrested on arrival

Nov 29, Colombo: The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of Sri Lanka today informed the court that governing party parliamentarian Duminda Silva, wanted for the election day shooting incident, will be arrested upon his arrival to the country.

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has issued order for Silvas arrest over his alleged involvement in the murder of Presidential Advisor Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra.

When the case was taken up for hearing at the Magistrate’s Court today, CID officer ASP Shani Abeysekera has informed the court that Silva’s medical condition is currently being examined and that the Attorney General’s advice has been sought.

The CID has added that Silva was receiving treatment for his injuries in Singapore.

The 36-year-old MP sustained severe injuries to his head during a shooting incident on October 8th in Mulleriyawa where four persons including Presidential Advisor Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra were killed. He was taken to Singapore for further medical treatment by his family on November 1st.

Arresting Silva, according to the CID, would depend upon his arrival to the country and the advice received by the Attorney general.
