Committee to handle funeral arrangements of slain former legislator of Sri Lanka

Oct 11, Colombo: A Committee chaired by Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa had been appointed to handle the funeral arrangements of the slain former ruling party legislator and presidential aide Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra.

The funeral committee, comprising Ministers Susil Premajayantha, Maithripala Sirisena and Dinesh Gunawardena, Western Province Governor Alavi Moulana and Provincial Councilor Renuka Perera, has made arrangements to conduct the funeral of the former MP on Wednesday (12) at the Umagiliya Grounds in Kolonnawa.

According to Provincial Councilor Renuka Perera, the cortege will leave at 2:00 p.m. and reach the Grounds at 3:00 p.m. when the funeral proceedings will begin. The cremation is scheduled to take place at 6:00 p.m.

Perera has urged all organizations and the public who want to participate in funeral proceedings sto gather near the Clock Tower in Kolonnawa at 2:00 p.m. on the funeral day.

Former MP Premachandra and two others were killed in a shooting incident between two factions of the ruling party on Saturday (08).
