Electricity Board employees of Sri Lanka to protest demanding for salary arrears

July 06, Colombo: Employees of Sri Lanka’s power distributor, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), are to hold a protest on Friday (8) outside the Board’s head office in downtown Colombo.

The CEB Union, Lanka Vidulu Sevaka Sangamaya says that the protest has been organized by the employees based on several demands including a demand for the payment of a 10-month salary arrears.

Secretary of the trade union, Ranjan Jayalal told the media that most of the trade unions in the CEB would participate in the protest.

According to Jayalal, the government has failed to pay the salary increment granted every three years since 2009.

He says the government had not made the payment despite reaching an agreement in the matter.
