Former justice minister is ruling party mayoral candidate for Colombo MC

Aug 22, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s ruling party United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) has named senior adviser to the President and former Justice Minister Milinda Moragoda as the mayoral of candidate for the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) at the upcoming local government elections.

UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha has told local media that the decision to nominate Moragoda was taken following a meeting held yesterday.

Moragoda had served as Minister of Justice and Law Reform, Minister of Tourism, Minister for Economic Reform, Science and Technology and Deputy Minister for Plan Implementation and Development in earlier administrations.

Moragoda lost his re-election bid to the parliament at the April 2010 general elections.
