Ground water contaminated in Sri Lanka, a recent report says

June 06, Colombo: recent research report of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board has said that Ground water in Sri Lanka except the water resources in the Central Province is polluted.

The report is based on the results of tests conducted on water samples taken from a number of locations in the country.

The reports says the contamination is from bacteria that absorbed into ground water resources due to agricultural activities.

The National Water Supply and Drainage Board says that the situation may cause serious problems and needed to be remedied immediately.

The sources say that a programme is underway under the Bund Conservation and Water Resources Planning project of the Ministry of Irrigation to rectify the problem.
