"I can still be contacted"- former Sri Lanka captain says on match fixing allegations

June 08, Colombo: Hashan Tillakaratne, former Sri Lanka cricket captain and present councilor of the Western Provincial Council says that if necessary Minister of Sports can contact him since he still lives in the same residence.

Minister of Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage recently said that he could not find the whereabouts of the ex-captain to question about the match fixing allegations he raised and asked the opposition party to help him to find Tillakaratne.

Hashan Tillakaratne said in the Western Provincial Council meeting yesterday that the Sports Minister had not tried to contact him at least over the phone.

He pointed out that he still lives in his residence and he had already given two statements to the Criminal Investigation Department. He said he also met the President Mahinda Rajapaksa and discussed the matter.

Tillakaratne said the Sports Minister’s speech at the parliament embarrassed him and the Minister could contact him at any moment to seek assistance for a probe regarding allegations he made.

In a television program recently, the former skipper alleged that match fixing has been carried out since 1992.

Another Cricketer turned politician and former World Cup winning captain Arjuna Ranatunga has said that he will back Tillakaratne’s allegations and reveal more details.

Both Ranatunga and Tillakaratne are legislators of opposition parties.
