In Pictures: Sri Lanka President’s visit to Bangladesh

Apr 19, Dhaka: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, accompanied by First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa is on a three-day visit to Bangladesh.

While the main goal of the President’s visit is to hold bilateral talks to boost political and economic relations between the two countries, the President also took time out to visit some important places in Dhaka.

President Rajapaksa visited the Bangladesh National Martyr’s Memorial in Savar in Dhaka Monday (18). After placing a floral tribute, the President planted a mango sapling near the memorial to mark his visit.


The President participated in a foundation stone laying ceremony to build the International Buddhist Center in Merul Badda Temple in Dahka and unveiled the commemoration plaque after participating in religious activities.


A large number of Sri Lankans living in Dhaka also attended the ceremonies.

President Rajapaksa, First Lady and members of his delegation visited the Bangabandu Sheik Mujiber Rahman Commemoration Museum in in Dhaka this morning. There, the President made a floral tribute to the Bangladesh founder leader Sheik Mujibar Rahuman’s statue erected in the museum.


Meanwhile, First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa visited ‘Proyash’ Handicapped Childrens Institute in Dhaka during her visit in Bangladesh. The First Lady interacted with the children of the Institute and enjoyed a performance by them.
