Israel technology to uplift SLs agriculture sector

The newly appointed Israel Ambassador to Sri Lanka,  Alon Ushpiz paid a courtesy call on  Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Economic Development, today (23) at the Ministry of Economic Development.

Discussions were focused on important issues such as strengthening and boosting the friendship and effective cooperation between the two nations.  Economic, cultural and Scientific relationships between the two countries were also discussed.

Since the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, she has established and marinated relations with many nations around the world. Sri Lanka commenced diplomatic relationship with Israel in 1980  and since then Sri Lanka has had a close relationship with Israel. The Israel government supported the development of Sri Lanka even in the period of war.

Although the climate pattern in Israel is not favourable for agriculture, Israel has achieved the highest agricultural development in the world.  It is admirable to note how they do their cultivation even in deserts using advanced technologies of water management. Israel is rich in technology in the areas of water management, education as well as infrastructure development.

Ambassador expressed his interest in passing on the technology and scientific knowledge for the benefit of the agricultural sector in Sri Lanka, especially in area of potato and Mango cultivation and use of sprinklers system for the agriculture sector.
