Apr 12, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Highways and Ports Ministry says that steps have been taken to replace current three decade old gantry cranes at the Jaya Container Terminal (JCT) with new ones.
The Ministry says that the new cranes would be electronically efficient in line with the latest technological advancements.
The cranes have been imported from China at a cost of Rs. 720 million.
Local media has reported that the new cranes include three modern STS cranes and six RTG cranes.
Ports Ministry officials have reportedly said the cranes will be installed with a computerized system, which would improve efficiency and productivity.
