Kuwait grants amnesty to illegal Sri Lankans

Apr 20, Colombo: The Kuwait government has declared a common amnesty for Sri Lankans who are illegally staying in Kuwait to leave the country without facing any legal actions, the state-run radio Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) said.

The amnesty period has been granted until 30th June for any illegal Sri Lankan to leave the country.

During this period Sri Lankans in Kuwait who have lost their passports or visa documents or who do not possess such documents are able to return to Sri Lanka without any punishments imposed.

Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau (SLFEB) has requested those illegally staying Sri Lankans to make maximum use of the common amnesty.

SLBC says there are about 14,000 Sri Lankans staying in Kuwait without proper documents.
