Oct 17, Colombo: Over 400 labor officers attached to the Labor Department in Sri Lanka have commenced a trade union action demanding a solution to their long standing salary anomaly.
The Government Service Labor Officers’ Association has said that 454 labor officers island wide were participating in the trade union action.
Vice Chairman of the Association, I.C. Gamage has said that continuous demands made since 2006 to address their salary anomalies have been ignored by the authorities.
He has said that the trade union action launched by the labor officers would therefore continue until the salary anomalies are resolved.
According to Gamage, Labor Minister Gamini Lokuge, Ministry Secretary Upali Wijeweera and the Commissioner General of Labor had assured the labor officers that the salary anomalies will be rectified at the earliest when the officers first launched trade union action on February 25 this year.
However, the authorities have still not addressed the salary anomaly issue.
