Legal suits filed against 250 unregistered eateries in Sri Lankan capital

Dec 27, Colombo: The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) has filed legal actions against 250 unregistered eateries in the capital Colombo City.

Chief Medical Officer of the CMC, Dr. Pradeep Kariyawasam says that while legal action has been filed against some eateries in the city, the CMC was on the look out to identify more unregistered establishments in Colombo.

He has said the CMC found out about the new restaurants opened in the city through advertisements in the media.

Dr. Kariyawasam has explained that any new restaurant needs approval by the CMC before its opening and that the health inspectors of the CMC would continuously monitor the standards of the restaurants.

According to Dr. Kariyawasam, the CMC could be held responsible in case of a food poisoning in any of those restaurants.
