Marxist party of Sri Lanka not yet received court notice to show cause

Dec 29, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) says the party has not yet received any court notice calling for a show cause by the party leadership against an enjoining order on the party conventions scheduled for January 1, 2012.

JVP Propaganda Secretary and parliamentarian Vijitha Herath told ColomboPage the party would take the necessary action if it receives a notice to show cause.

Herath made these comments in response to reports of a case being filed by the JVP dissidents seeking an enjoining order against the party convention.

It has been reported that the party leadership has to show cause against an enjoining order at the Colombo District Court on Friday (30).

Herath however said the party was currently in the process of preparing for the convention.

He denied allegations made by the dissidents that the convention has been organized in violation of the party Constitution.

“The party convention was the majority decision of the Central Committee and it has been informed to the Elections Commissioner and the party membership,” he said.

Herath added that there was no secrecy behind the convention as it has been publicized in the media as well.
