Minister says Sri Lankan government awaiting a favorable response from India

Apr 28, Colombo: A Sri Lankan government minister has said the country is expecting a favorable response from India with regard to the report by the Panel of Experts appointed by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Sri Lanka.

Leader of the breakaway Marxist party National Freedom front (NFF) and Housing and Construction Minister Wimal Weerawansa has told a press conference that the President and the External Affairs Minister would visit friendly nations to muster their support against the panel report.

The Russian ambassador and China had extended their support against the report.

However, he observed that “there was no point in briefing some countries like the US, whom the UN was trying to please.”

Weerawansa has added that the President of Sri Lanka has the opportunity of proposing an alternate to the existing UN, which is allegedly being used to suit the agendas of some Western nations.
