Opposition mayoral candidate for Colombo accuses Sri Lanka governing party of resorting to thuggery

Sept 22, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s main opposition United National Party (UNP) mayoral candidate for the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC), A.J.M. Muzammil says the governing United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) has resorted to thuggery in an attempt to suppress the true will of the people.

Muzammil has said the governing UPFA that boasted of an easy victory in Colombo is now resorting to thuggery in desperation.

He has said that a UNP meeting attended by him was attacked on Monday (19) and that thugs had also attacked and caused damaged to vehicles that were being used for the campaign at his Bambalapitiya office.

He has observed that the governing party after failing to deceive the residents of Colombo through words and abuse of public property was now resorting to violence against opposition political parties.

According to Muzammil, the people of Colombo will resist the attempts to suppress their voice and would respond properly at the elections on October 8th.
