Patriotic National Movement of Sri Lanka protest withdrawing emergency regulations due to Indian pressure

May 29, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Sinhala nationalist Patriotic National Movement (PNM) affiliated to the National Freedom Front led by Minister Wimal Weerawansa expressed opposition today to the withdrawal of the emergency regulations.

The Social Affairs Secretary of the PNM Dr Wasantha Bandara said in a press conference held in Colombo today that the government should not withdraw emergency regulations due to the pressure from India.

He said that the mentioning of the need to remove emergency regulations in the joint statement issued after the Indian tour of the Minister of External Affairs Prof. G.L. Peiris was interference in local affairs by India.

The activist said the withdrawal of emergency regulations was a matter of concern of the legislature of Sri Lanka.
