May 17, Batticaloa : Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Sri Lanka has arrested three persons under suspicion for last week’s killing of coordinating secretary of Deputy Minister Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias Karuna Amman, police said.

One of the arrested persons is a local government councilor identified as Edwin Krishnananda Silva alias Pradeep Master of Tamil People’s Liberation Tigers (TMVP) led by Eastern Province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan.

Reportedly Chief Minister Chandrakanthan has lodged a strong protest over the manner of the arrest with government officials at the highest level.

The police, TMVP officials say, have not given a reason for the arrest to Pradeep Master’s family members.

The murder is suspected to be a result of a clash between the two rival groups.

Deputy Minister Muralitharan, who was the Eastern Commander of Tamil Tiger terrorists, broke away from the LTTE and formed TMVP. Later he joined the ruling Sri Lanka Freedom Party.

Madyalahan alias Madhi , the coordinating secretary of the Minister was shot dead at his house on May 12.
