Police investigate clash between Sri Lankans and foreign security team at Unawatuna

Oct 23, Galle: Sri Lanka’s Unawatuna police say that investigations are underway over the Saturday morning clash between a group of foreigners and the local residents of the resort area.

The clash reportedly took place in a tourist hotel yesterday and several foreigners and locals who got involved in it were admitted to hospital with injuries, the police said.

Police Media Spokesperson SP Ajith Rohana said four Russians and one French national have been admitted to the Karapitiya Hospital following the fight.

However, three foreigners have fled from the hospital and one foreigner involved in the clash is now under arrest, the police said.

The group of foreigners is believed to be members of a private security team that is protecting ships from Somalian pirates.
