Postal Department trade unions of Sri Lanka demand removal of Post Master General

Oct 24, Colombo: A coalition of trade unions of the Postal Department of Sri Lanka staged a protest this afternoon at Maradana in Colombo city.

The protesters demanded the immediate removal of the Post Master General M.K.M. Dissanayake.

The media spokesman of the trade union coalition Chinthaka Bandara said the Post Master General is accused of 26 counts. He further said that the trade unions would resort to strike action if the voice of the agitation went unheard.

The trade unions of the Postal Department initiated trade union action against the Post Master General in last May. The government appointed a three-member committee to probe the allegations against the Post Master General.

The committee has found that the Post Master General guilty of 16 counts against him and partially guilty of 5 counts.

Trade unions say that the Post Master General can be charged for the 16 counts according to the report of the committee.
