Oct 06, Colombo: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa Thursday handed over 14 new fire trucks to municipalities and urban councils at a function held in Temple Trees.
The new firefighting units worth 600 million rupees have been provided by Netherlands under a Line of Credit to the Ministry of Local Government and Provincial Councils.
President Rajapaksa pointed out that delay in the operation of fire brigade units cause immense damage during a fire and asked the local government authorities to provide a maximum service from fire brigades for the safety of the people.
The President symbolically handed over the firefighting units to the Galle, Kurunegala, Badulla, Kalutara, Trincomalee and Anuradhapura Municipal Councils.

Deputy Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils, Indika Bandaranaike also participated in the event.
