Apr 18, Polgahawela: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa declared open the Sri Lanka’s first and only auto assembling plant of the Micro Car Private Limited in Polgahawela export processing zone.
After opening the facility, the President took an observation tour in the plant, which according to its Chairman Dr. Lawrence Perera will have the facilities to assemble 2,800 vehicles monthly.
The Chairman officially presented the plant’s latest production, named as “Tour Wagon” to the President.
The company is scheduled to export a consignment of vehicles to Bangladesh shortly and Dr. Perera also presented the documents relevant to the export to the President.
The plant is expected to generate a number of direct and indirect job opportunities while saving a arge amount of foreign exchange by manufacturing vehicle spare parts within the country.
Further, the exports to Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Maldives are expected to bring in foreign revenues.
Senior Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama and Minister Rishad Bathiyutheen were also present.
