President participates in alms giving to mark the 2600th Sambudda Jayanthi

May 07, Kelaniya: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa today participated in an arms giving ceremony to mark the 2600th Sambudda Jayanthi Anniversary.

President Rajapaksa offered alms to 2,600 monks at the Manelwathu Maha Viharaya in Bollegala today. Chief incumbent of the temple, venerable Dr. Bodagama Chandima Thero has organized the religious event.


The President also declared open the Sambudda Jayanthi Buddhist Conference hall and the newly constructed Bikkhu hostel located at the temple premises. Maha Sangha invoked blessings to the President and offered a special souvenir to the President.

Maha Nayaka of Amarapura Sangha Sabha Ven. Davuldena Gnanissara Thero, followed by a large number of Maha Sangha, Ministers and devotes also participated in the occasion.
