President participates in several functions in Kalutara district

Jan 17, Matugama: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa today participated in several functions in the Kalutara district.

President Rajapaksa declared open the first phase of the modernized Matugama Bus stand today with the participation of Transport Minister, Kumara Welgama and Ports and Highways Deputy Minister, Rohitha Abeygunawardena. He also laid the foundation stone for the second phase of constructions.

While participating in the “Diri Uda 2012” ceremony held at the Mathugama Town Hall organized to provide school supplies for the students in Kalutara district who enter grade one, the President stressed the importance of parents’ participation and encouragement in their children’s activities.

Attending several functions at Kakunadola Rajamaha Viharaya in Agalawatta, President Rajapaksa launched a water supply scheme for the Temple and opened a “Nanasala” (computer center) at the premises for the student monks.

He planted a sandal wood tree in the premises and unveiled the entrance gate (Vahalkada) of the Temple.

Transport Minister, Kumara Welgama, Plantation Industries Minister, Mahinda Samarasinghe and Ports and Highways Deputy Minister, Rohitha Abeygunawardena also participated in the occasion.
