Aug 15, Colombo: The pro-reforms group of Sri Lanka’s main opposition United National Party (UNP) is planning to hold a demonstration outside the party headquarters, Sirikotha, on Wednesday (17) calling on party leader Ranil Wickremasinghe to step down from the leadership.
The pro-reforms group has organized a meeting with party members in the local government bodies on Wednesday.
According to a member of the pro-reforms group, the local government members are to call for a leadership change at Sirikotha after the meeting with pro-reforms group head and co-deputy leader Sajith Premadasa.
Meanwhile, the party’s Working Committee is also scheduled to meet at Sirikotha on Wednesday.
The pro-reforms group is calling for the appointment of deputy leader Karu Jayasuriya as the party leader.
