Protesting Sri Lankan student monks march right up to Temple Trees

June 03, Colombo: Student monks of Sri Lanka’s Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) affiliated Inter University Buddhist Federation (IUBF) today marched towards Temple Trees protesting against the death of a student monk from the Anuradhapura Buddhasrawaka Bhikkhu University.

The protesting monks called on the President to hold an inquiry into the recent death of a student monk.

Interestingly, when the monks marched towards Temple Trees, the police personnel opened the barricades and allowed them to march right up to the gates of Temple Trees.

The President had also made arrangements to offer drinks to the monks and invite them to offer alms.

The student monks however declined the invitation and did not accept the drinks offered to them.
