June 01, Colombo: Public Administration and Home Affairs Ministry of Sri Lanka has presented a proposal to the Cabinet of Ministers seeking the introduction of a “Service Minute” for graduates in the public sector.
Minister John Seneviratne says that the move is expected to improve productivity while depoliticizing the sector.
According to Seneviratne, the draft of the Service Minute has recommended a minimum cadre of 87,000 graduates to the public service who would be recruited under the guidelines of the new Service Minute.
The Minister has told the media that the Service Minute once introduced will be applied to the new graduate recruits and those already in the public service.
The Service Minute would look into their pay, guidance, and promotions.
