Religious observances held to celebrate Sri Lankan President’s 66th birthday

Nov 17, Colombo: A traditional religious custom of ‘Dana’ alms giving to the ‘Kiri Ammas’, the nursing mothers and ‘Kiriappas’, the fathers, was held today to mark the Sri Lankan President’s 66th birthday falling on Friday, November 18.

Dana was offered to 1,000 Kiriammas and 100 Kiriappas today (17) at Narahenpita Abhayarama Viharaya with Pirith chanting by Maha Sangha.


The President also participated in a series of religious events at Kataragama yesterday (16). The President also participated in a ceremony to lay the foundation stone for a museum building being constructed for Kirivehera Rajamaha Viharaya by the Commercial Bank.


Speaker, Chamal Rajapaksa and Uva Provincial Chief Minister, Shashendra Rajapaksa accompanied the President in the events. Kirivehera Rajamaha Viharadhipathi Ven. Dr. Aluthwawa Soratha thera is also in the picture.
