Retired Sri Lankan police chief rejects criticism on his stay in official residence

July 13, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s former Inspector General of Police Mahinda Balasuriya told media that he was entitled to the benefit of staying in the official quarters for three months after retirement.

The ex-police chief made this statement responding to media criticism on his stay in the official quarters after retirement.

He pointed out that this benefit is not only for him but for all the public servants. The ex-police chief said that a month had not passed yet following his retirement on June 18.

Mahinda Balasuriya resigned from the post of Inspector General of Police following police shooting incident in the Katunayake Free Trade Zone that killed an FTZ employee.
