Apr 04, Colombo: The negotiations between the estate sector trade unions and the Employers’ Federation of the plantation sector of Sri Lanka ended without a decision today although an agreement has been reached to consider salary increase for the workers.
Trade unions representing the estate workers in Sri Lanka and estate management companies met today to negotiate a salary increase for the estate workers.
A spokesman of the Lanka National Plantation Workers’ Union MP R. Yogarajan has said that the parties agreed to continue negotiations on April 29. He also said that the employers agreed to make the collective agreement effective from April 01.
Secretary of the Plantation Employers’ Federation Lalith Obeysekara told media that the two parties expressed their obligations.
Ceylon Workers’ Congress, Lanka National Plantation Workers’ Union, and the United Trade Union Federation represented plantation workers at the negotiations.
