Dec 13, Colombo: Senior members of Sri Lanka’s main opposition United National Party (UNP) are currently holding discussions to look at reaching a consensus with regard to the appointment of new office bearers for next year.
UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake told ColomboPage that according to the party Constitution a consensus needs to be reached on the office bearers.
He said that an election would be called only if a consensus could not be reached on the new appointments.
He said that party seniors were in the process of discussing with all senior members concerned to reach a consensus on the office bearers’ posts.
The UNP Working Committee is to meet on Sunday (18) and the announcement to appoint new office bearers will be made at the meeting.
