Sinhala nationalist party of Sri Lanka protests UN report

May 03, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Sinhala Buddhist nationalist party, Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) today staged a peaceful rally at the Independence Square in Colombo to protest the United Nations Secretary-General’s Panel of experts report on Sri Lanka.

Hundreds of Buddhist monks from the party lighted oil lamps and held prayers to bless the country and denounced the report which alleges Sri Lanka of war crimes during the last phase of the three-decade long armed conflict between the government forces and Tamil Tiger terrorists.

Sri Lankans all across the country have voiced their strong opposition to the report of the Expert Panel appointed by the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to advise him on the accountability of Sri Lankan government and its security forces during the last stage of the war ended two years ago.
