South Asia police chiefs’ conference begins today in Colombo

Apr 04, Colombo: The conference of the police chiefs from countries of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) is to begin in Colombo today.

The conference is held at Colombo Intercontinental Hotel under the patronage of the Secretary of the Ministry of Defense Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

This is the ninth conference of the police chiefs of the South Asian region. The officials will discuss issues relating to terrorism, drug peddling, and gun running and other trans-border crimes that have plagued the region.

Police chiefs of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, Nepal, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka will participate in the conference that will be held on April 4 and 5.

Sri Lanka’s police chief IGP Mahinda Balasuriya has said the conference would be a forum to enhance professionalism of police agencies, to promote goodwill among police officers in the SAARC region and share information.
