Sri Jayewardenepura University of Sri Lanka suspends 20 female students for organizing a protest

June 08, Colombo: Students union of the Sri Jayewardenepura University in Sri Lanka says that 20 female students of the University have been suspended for organiaing a protest.

The Sri Jayewardenepura University Students’ Union convener, Ven Kamburugamuwe Gnanissara Thero has told the media that 20 female students of the University have been suspended by the University for organizing a protest at the University premises last week, claiming they had attempted to create a disturbance among students.

The latest suspension of 20 female students has now increased the total number of students suspended from the Sri Jayewardenepura University to 50.

Ven. Gnanissara Thero has said that students have organized protests against the suspension of university students.

The Sri Lankan authorities have taken a tougher stand against misbehaving students at Sri Lankan universities who receive their education at the expense of the public money.
