Sri Lanka coalition party calls for a proper investigation on imported agro chemicals

June 19, Colombo: A coalition partner of Sri Lanka’s governing United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA), the National Freedom Front (NFF), has called on the government to hold a proper investigation into the agro chemicals that are being imported to the country.

NFF politburo member Piyasiri Wijenayaka has told a press conference that a proper investigation should be held since the Customs Department has found arsenic and mercury in the agro chemicals imported to the country.

The NFF has alleged that the Agriculture Minister has been misled about investigations into agro chemicals by certain government officials working to the agenda of multinational companies.

Wijenayaka has said that while thousands of agro chemicals are imported to the country, only about 28 products have been tested and that they all needed to be tested.
