Sri Lanka Cricket announces ICC World Twenty20 2012 key officials

Oct 04, Colombo: Ms. Upeka Abeykoon-Nell and Air Vice Marshal (retd) Shriyan Samararatne, has been appointed as the ICC World Twenty20 2012 Tournament Director and Head of Logistics, respectively. The event will be staged at four Sri Lanka venues – Colombo, Hambantota, Pallekele and Galle – from 18 September to 7 October 2012.

Ms. Nell and AVM Samararatne have officially commenced their duties on Monday (03)after the inauguration of the ICC World Twenty20 2012 Secretariat, located at the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) headquarters.

With her extensive corporate background and over 15 years at a number of leading multinational companies, Sri Lanka Cricket is confident that Ms. Nell possesses the required skill and expertise – not to mention the values and administrative prowess – to lead a successful team of professionals in the coordination and execution of this prestigious event, meeting the very high standards set by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Air Vice Marshal (retd) Shriyan Samararatne, who will be heading the Logistics Division of the ICC World Twenty20 2012 Secretariat, was the Director Logistics at the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF). The former Sri Lanka national team manager, who also represented the SLAF and Moratuwa in Premier Division cricket and was a national poolist, was also a member of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 Secretariat. He had also headed the logistics of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in 2000 and has served Sri Lanka Cricket for almost 20 years in an honorary capacity.
