Sri Lanka Cricket to appoint new team selectors

Jan 19, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s cricket governing body Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is to appoint a new selection committee for the national cricket team today.

SLC Chairman Upali Dharmadasa has told the media that the Board would meet Thursday morning to decide on the new members for the selectors.

The SLC is to also discuss today about several other changes to be made to the Sri Lankan cricket team.

It has been speculated that former Sri Lankan cricketer Ashantha de Mel would be appointed to head the selectors while former cricket captain Mahela Jayawardena is tipped to be re-appointed as the captain of the Sri Lankan cricket team.

The Sports Ministry is also waiting for recommendations by SLC to make changes to the Sri Lankan cricket team.

The Minister has instructed the newly elected President of Sri Lanka cricket Upali Dharmadasa to submit a report within a week after studying the present woeful situation of the national team.
