Sri Lanka government recruits 1,500 graduates as management trainees for state banks

July 12, Colombo: The Sri Lankan government will recruit 1,500 graduates as management trainees in the state banks under a decision taken in the budget proposal last year, President Mahinda Rajapaksa announced at a function held at the Temple Trees today to hand over appointment letters to 227 new recruits as trainees in the People’s Bank.


The trainees are to be given proper training and absorb into the state bank service. Trainees will also be recruited to the Bank of Ceylon.

The President has emphasized that the government’s policy is to provide jobs according to qualifications and fill the vacancies at the government institutes with the aptly qualified candidates.

Chairman of the People’s Bank W.G. Karunajeewa said that this was the first time such a large number of trainees were recruited to the People’s Bank.

Deputy Minister of Finance Planning Geethanjana Gunawardena and Secretary to the President Lalith Weerathunge were also present.
