Sri Lanka Higher Education Minister vows to eradicate ragging from the country’s universities

May 26, Colombo: Higher Education Minister of Sri Lanka S.B. Dissanayake has vowed to take stern action against ragging in order to eradicate the menacing practice from the country’s university system.

Dissanayake has told the parliament today that he would even take action to close universities in order to eradicate ragging from the tertiary education system.

According to the Minister, the stern action taken during the past few months has minimized incidents of ragging that had taken place in the universities by 80%.

Dissanayake has also said that he would address the salary increment issue of the university lecturers.
