Sri Lanka holds international forum on Community Based Sustainable Tourism

Oct 06 2011, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Economic Development and Sri Lankan Tourism department has organized an international forum on Community Based Sustainable Tourism today.

The one-day forum commenced at 8:30 a.m. today at the Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management in Colombo.

Sri Lanka Tourism has declared the month of October as a Month of Community Based Tourism under Visit Sri Lanka programme and planned series of activities to promote the community based tourism throughout the month.

The tourism agency says, since the opportunities for sharing experiences of diverse models of community based tourism are of great importance for the development of tourism in Sri Lanka, it has planned to conduct an international forum as a key activity under the Community Development Program of the Tourism Resources Improvement Project (TRIP).

Under the program, two Japanese experts, from the Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University in Japan, with wide experience and knowledge in this field has been invited to conduct a workshop to share their experiences with the participants of the forum.

The organizers say over 100 participants representing public and private sector institutions will be attending the forum and Sri Lankan case studies from leading Sri Lankan companies such as ICC group, Dilmah, and Bio food will be presented.
