Sri Lanka marks International Nurses Day

May 12, Colombo: Sri Lanka today marked the International Nurses Day with a ceremony at the Temple Trees, under the patronage of the President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Addressing the gathering of hundreds of nurses, the President said the government has been able to safeguard rights of the nurses. He added that the government also expects a high quality service from the nurses as well.

President Rajapaksa is seen here presenting complimentary gifts to retired nurses for their service to the Sri Lankan public.


Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena, Irrigation, and Water Resources Management Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva, Secretary to the Ministry of Health Dr.Ravindra Ruberu, Governor of the Western Province Alavi Moulana, Attorney General Mohan Peiris, and Chairman of the Public Service Health Nurses Association Venerable Muruththettuwe Ananda Thera also participated.
