Sri Lanka Marxist party members allege assault by persons in police uniforms

June 04, Galle: A group of Sri Lanka’s Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) members has alleged that persons in police uniforms and civvies had assaulted them when they were pasting posters in the Hiniduma area.

One of the JVP members injured during the assault had been admitted to hospital and a complaint has been lodged with the Hiniduma police.

The JVP media unit said the members were pasting posters of a seminar due to be attended by party secretary Tilvin Silva in Galle when they came under attack.

The Hiniduma police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
