Sri Lanka Marxist party says no leadership crisis

May 08, Colombo: In response to a query from a journalist if the leadership of the Sri Lanka Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) would change, the general secretary of the party Tilvin Silva said that there was no leadership crisis in the party.

JVP party leader Somawansa Amarasinghe recently has said that the JVP leadership would be given to a youth at a press meeting held in London.

Media reports, citing ‘party internal sources’ recently said that MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake would be appointed as the new JVP leader.

Political analysts say that the JVP that was considered as a youth party is rapidly lacking popularity among the young generation.

The leadership prospect Anura Kumara Dissanayake is also over 40 years of age, they point out.
