Mar 29, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Minister of Higher Education S.B. Dissanayake announced Tuesday that university lecturers would be given higher education opportunities under the government’s programme to make Sri Lanka Asia’s knowledge center.
He said that six universities would be developed unto the international level and the higher education opportunities would be expanded.
The Minister made these comments at a ceremony held in Colombo this morning to grant scholarships to 197 university lecturers to continue their higher studies in foreign universities. The government has allocated 600 million rupees for this scholarship programme.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Nandimithra Ekanayaka publicly lamented that the Minister Dissanayake and the Secretary of the Ministry Sunil Jayantha Navaratne are ignoring him.
The Deputy Minister said that the duo do not make him aware of any policy decisions taken by the Ministry and lamented that the lack of opportunity for his participation in decision making process.
