May 08, Colombo: Sri Lanka Minister of Power and Energy Patali Champika Ranawaka, Western Provincial Council Minister Udaya Gammanpila and 23 other activists of the Sinhala Buddhist political party Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) today observed 10 religious obligations and left for a hermitage to live a life of recluse for 10 days.
The Sinhala Buddhist activists performed this action as a special offering due to the 2600th centenary of Buddha achieving the enlightenment.
They ordained at Sadaham Sevana temple in Rajagiriya, Colombo under the guidance of Most Ven. Davuldena Gnanissara, the chief incumbent of Amarapura Nikaya.
They are to engage in meditation at Kanduboda Buddhist hermitage for 10 days away from their political and social affiliations.
